Crown Peaks, Subic Freeport, Upper Cubi Point Room Rentals
Former US Navy Bachelor's Officers Quarters
A good example of what the former US Navy Bachelors Officers
Quarters (BOQ) rooms look like.
As of January 2006

Subic Freeport is the former
US Naval Base, Subic Bay.

In Subic Freeport, Upper Cubi Point, the Philippines Crown Peak Hotel has leased several
former US Navy barracks/dormitories from the
Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA)
and converted them into monthly room rentals. Rooms are air-conditioned, approximately
300 square feet, with full private bath, free water and garbage, and  free cable television.
Rooms are partially-furnished with 14”  TV with remote, Queen-sized bed, table, desk, lamp
and large attached wall closet.  Most other furniture needs can be met by your own
purchase or by befriending the Dorm Attendant who is charged with dormitory care.  Most
of your personal living improvement needs can be met by tipping the Dorm Attendant and
treating him with a little respect. Refrigerator rental depends upon availability.

As of January 2006 room rental was 5,200 Pesos ($100.00 0r less) month. With 24/7 AC
use the average electric bill is between 1,500 to 2,500 pesos depending upon  the season.
Units initially rent is for a minimum of three months. From experience Crown peak will not
make any exceptions

In September 2005, in preparation to return to the United States, Prelia and I rented out on
Robinson's Ermita condo and moved to Upper Cubi Point.  We wanted to experience
something different, learn more about the Subic/O'Longapo area, perhaps later for
investment reasons. We lived in Upper Cubi Point from September 2, 2005 to January 21st
2006. During our stay in the Subic Freeport area we come to love the peacefulness and
tranquility the area had to offer.

Many other photos of the Upper Cubi Point area can be found at our free Web Shots link.
SMBA offers bus services and taxi service from Upper Cubi Point to various of locations
on Subic Freeport and the Main Gate to O'longapo for minimum cost.

SMBA Transportation:  Bus and Taxi Service are primary stationed at the Main Gate, Subic
Freeport.  Outside the Main Gate is O'Longapo.  Bus service departs the Main Gate about
every 20 minutes and runs from the Main Gate to various Subic Freeport locations, to
Upper Cubi Point and than returns to the Main Gate. Per passenger bus cost 12 Peso or
less depending upon destination.

Taxi service from the Main Gate to Upper Cubi Point cost 140 pesos. Taxi Service pickup
from BOQ/Upper Cubi Point to Main Gate cost 180 Pesos. The additional 40 Peso fee is
standard because you are being picked up by the service, whereas if you catch a taxi from
the Main Gate or other location you go to a taxi stand for service.

There may be times taxi service fees are lessened.  Usually when SMBA taxi service drops
passengers off at their Upper Cubi Point destination, the taxi service will make various
stops at the different  bus stops on their return to the Main Gate to pick up passengers who
are waiting for the bus for the Main Gate. If you are lucky to catch a ride, the standard flat
rate taxi fees are waived. You pay the same fee as you would for a bus..

Upper Cubi Point Location: Upper Cubi Point is within the confines of Subic Freeport, in a
elevated area, isolated from the main portion of SMBA. Services are limited to a sari sari
store, perhaps two to three small eating establishments and mostly consist of residential
housing and dormitory living. Upper Cubi Point is probably the most scenic area of the
former Navy base with breath taking sunrise's/sunset's, jungle and other natural settings.

Good Things to Know:

Not far from Upper Cubi Point, on the main portion of SMBA on the water front there are
three different beach resorts. Jet skiing and para sailing available.

SMBA Royal's is a shopping center where most of your grocery needs can be met. Many
import food products from the states are also sold there.

Subic Freeport has a hotel with casino, movie theater, go-cart course

Subic Water Front Area close by the Main Gate has several different nice eating
establishments with night time live entertainment. There is a boardwalk and beach area.
Also there are several sari-sari type canteens that offer inexpensive food, cold drink and
karaoke.

Subic Banking: Not far from the Main Gate there is a Metrobank, Equitable Bank and a few
smaller RP owned banks.

Just outside Subic Main Gate there is a small mall.

Victory Liner which is about fifteen minutes by jeepney from Subic's Main Gate, has an
early morning bus to Samploc Manila. Ticket cost 178 Pesos. From experience the best
time to take the bus to and from Manila is about 7:00 AM. Travel time is about three hours
with one rest stop at half way point  for thirty minutes.

For Retired US Military: There is a
Retired Activities Office located in Barreto, which is
about thirty minutes by jeepney from Subic's Main Gate.
